Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

In my personal opinion, plasma beats best LCD models like Sony and Samsung. So, if you are still shopping, simply go to the store, and devote some time to comparing TVs and chose the one YOU like.

Like many other consumers, I was hesitating choosing between plasma and LCD TVs. Initially, I was inclined to LCD (Sony 120HZ), but after spending quite a time in one of the electronic giant stores comparing different brands, I chose Panasonic plasma (I liked Pioneer KURO even better - but it costs 3 grand more:)

If you prefer unnaturally bright, "computer" like images, go with LCD TV (but get 120HZ model or wait for 240HZ to come to the market soon).But again, even 120HZ is twice less of what plasma offers.

If you like "movie" like picture and absolutely fantastic, sharp quality of this plasma TV (420HZ, 1 million contrast ratio to 1), I'd recommend this Panasonic. Just don't forget to buy decent HDMI cable and Blue Ray player - and you'll be blown away. Even SD (regular TV channels look great). It's amazing.Period.

Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-26M4000/R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Red

A 26" flat-screen tv that looks and sounds just as well as the larger sets in the market. Fantastic features, super fine image and extra crisp sound--with a great bass and not distortion at higher volumes. The red trim is soothing to the eyes and it was $100.00 cheaper than the other (white and black) Bravias in the market. Over a month after purchasing it, I still prefer to watch shows on this tv instead of the 54" in the living room. Get yourself one. Sharp Aquos LC52SE94U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I purchased this TV about a year ago and watch it daily. I really enjoy the display, even in well lit areas. The matte finish was non-negotiable for me. The room I have it in has many light sources, and even though they are all visible from the dispaly, none are reflected back from the matte finish on the display. Compare that to the new Samsung's that are extremely reflective and are best used in darker areas.

When I was deciding which display to purchase, I visited Best Buy several times to compare this and other sets. To this day, the LC52SE94U remains the best looking set on the wall, at least to me. If I had it to do over again, I'd have bought the same TV. When I win the lottery, I'll get the bigger version.

Here's my rundown of pro's and con's:

Pros:
* Matte display
* Attractive bezel
* Removable Speakers
* Lots of inputs
* 120-Hz much more pleasing to the eye than the competition

Cons:
* Lack of DVI input
* Auto Brightness feature annoying
* Stand does not swivel

If you're mounting this to the wall, and have a single HDMI cable coming from an upconverting receiver, it's nearly perfect. It will be interesting to see what OLED TV's look like and how it will affect the price of existing LCD TV's.Buy Sharp Aquos LC52SE94U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV!

Samsung HL50A650 50-Inch 1080p Slim DLP HDTV

The last thing this TV needed was another 5 star review, but I just had to give my 2 cents. This is my first big screen television and after doing plenty of research there was no question that this was the set for me. I bought in September, hoping that I'd be watching the Cubs in the World Series on it. Oh well, that didn't go as planned, but I then had it for football season. Just amazing picture. I have a home theatre, so audio was never used. I have a PS3 and it looks spectacular.

I will say that you should never buy Monster Cables for HDMI. Go to amazon and look at HDMI cables. I bought the SUPER cheap ones for 2 bucks plus shipping. They are good overall. Serviceable. I know that a lot of people believe that a digital signal is a digital signal and I'm not an engineer so I can't argue. I was having issues with my PS3 HDMI with red lines and I'd have to shake the cable a bit, but hey, I spent [...] bucks on cables. I decided to buy a couple MEDIABRIDGE 1.3 cables for 10 plus shipping. The picture is just as good, but the cable is much MUCH sturdier than the super cheap one. When you hold the 2 in your hands there is a noticeable difference in weight and how much more solid the mediabridge is. I highly recommend it.

As for the TV, BUY IT, BUY IT BUY IT!!! I got mine for $[...] plus 4 years extended warranty at Best Buy. Best value out there. Buy Samsung HL50A650 50-Inch 1080p Slim DLP HDTV!

Vizio 42" 1080p LCD Full 120Hz HDTV (SV420XVT1A)

Pros-

This telly was really a snap to set up. It has ample inputs (4 HDMI) for hooking up all manner of techno whiz-bangs. I have found it to have an excellent picture with color reproduction as good or better than lcd's costing several hundred dollars more and the black levels are pretty good for an lcd as well. And the sound, both quality and volume, are far better than any other flat panel television that I've checked out. The remote is functional, neither impressive or disappointing. As another reviewer already noted, the menu system could be a little easier to navigate. But on the up-side, in that menu system you will find settings for absolutely everything, allowing you to tweak the picture and sound to your liking. Also, it is a 1080p resolution although you're not likely to notice it on a 42 inch screen. But 1080p costs about as much as 720p does these days, so why not get it?

Cons-

My only complaint is the 120hz "smooth motion". Images moving slowly across the screen or during a slow camera pan are smoothed considerably. This is especially noticeable while watching something film based. However, the technology that Vizio uses to accomplish this isn't very good at handling fast moving images. Something moving quickly across the screen will have a halo around it with images in the immediate background appearing distorted. Worse yet, during a quick camera pan the entire screen appears to stutter and jump. With a 60hz television, especially when watching film based content originally in 24 frames per second, you expect a little jerkiness during a quick camera pan. But the smooth motion settings on this tv actually make that jerkiness worse, so I usually leave it turned off.

Conclusion-

The 120hz thing is pretty useless on this tv, and a selling gimmick on most all lcd's that have it in my opinion. But you can turn it off. And when you do, you have a 60hz flat screen that meets or beats almost every other lcd flat screen out there in terms of picture and sound quality. The fact that this television can be had for several hundred less than comparable models from companies like Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and LG makes it that much better of a deal. I'd recommend this Vizio to anyone looking to buy a flat screen. Buy Vizio 42" 1080p LCD Full 120Hz HDTV (SV420XVT1A)!

Casio TV-880 2.3" Portable Handheld Color TV

I picked one of these up cheap on Ebay. I live in North County San Diego and the only station I can pick up really well on both UHF and VHF is Telemundo--which comes in *great*. Too bad english is my only language.

Anyway, I don't know if this is a fault of the TV or the technology--but I can't imagine traveling with this if I can only pick up 1 station so near a major metropolitan area. Can't imagine what might happen in the middle of nowhere.Buy Casio TV-880 2.3" Portable Handheld Color TV!

Westinghouse SK-19H210S 19-Inch LCD HDTV

Zero Stars!! I bought this TV for my sons college dorm room. Out of the box the picture was OK but the sound quality was horrible, like the old TVs in the 1950's only worse. I bought external speakers and they worked fine, right up to the time when the whole TV failed on day 3 of ownership. Westinghose sent me to a local repair shop, who charged me $100 to diagnose the problem, and another $100 to swap out some parts. (Whatever happened to the concept of a warranty?) Three days later the set failed AGAIN. I marched it down to a dumpster and tossed it in. Now it is where it belongs, in a landfill somewhere. I will NEVER buy another Westinghouse product, trust me on this.Buy Westinghouse SK-19H210S 19-Inch LCD HDTV!

SpongeBob SquarePants 13" TV/DVD Combination with Remote Control

I have had this TV for almost 2 years now and it has a wonderful picture, as well as great sound quality for such a little TV. It is very cute, and most importantly to me...stable when placed on a table (which I cannot say for most other character TV's). The good things stop there. This really shouldn't be considered a DVD/TV combo as the DVD player rarely works...and I usually give up before getting it to work. I have learned to live without that and just enjoyed the TV itself until a few days ago when the remote was misplaced. You absolutely CANNOT use any universal remote controls with this TV as NONE of the codes work. Good luck finding another on the internet as you could do with any other TV. I have heard you can get one directly from Emerson for like $30 plus another $10 for shipping (haven't spoken w/ them yet to be sure as I just sit on hold forever and gave up). $40 for another remote is insane and I will live without it for that...but since the TV changes channels soooooooooo slowly, it is now kinda useless and just sits on the table looking cute. Invest your money in another product NOT made by Emerson. Buy SpongeBob SquarePants 13" TV/DVD Combination with Remote Control!

22" Vizio VO22LFHDTV 1080p Widescreen LCD HDTV - 16:9 5000:1 (Dynamic) 5ms 2 HDMI ATSC/QAM/NTSC Tuners (Black)

I'm very impressed with the quality of this TV for such a low price. I needed a small set for my office and 22" is the ideal size for my viewing distance and available space. This Vizio is perfect for my needs. The quality of the HD picture is crisp and clear, the color full and rich, the blacks deep and true.

The only slight negatives are the sound is a little tinny, but that seems to be common to all flat screen TV's, and the remote control isn't very intuitive. But these are very small complaints. I've already gotten used to the sound and it's just a matter of learning the remote.

I have a large Sony Bravia in my family room with the full surround sound set up, so I go there if I want to watch a movie. But for watching TV while I work at my computer, it's ideal. Philips 19PFL3403D/F7 19-Inch 1440 x 900p LCD HDTV (Black)

I got this TV a few days ago and it works great. It picked up some of the basic HD channels on Comcast cable without a converter box (thanks to the QAM tuner).

The unit is stylish and thin, with a tilting base. The glossy finish is a nice touch and makes the frame seem smaller than it is. The speakers are on the bottom of the unit making it less wide, and they sound good too.

Powered off there is no Stand By light and the ON indicator light is not obtrusive. The remore is average sized and is not excessive with the buttons, only the ones you need and its easy to figure out where they are in the dark.

If you can get this TV in the sub $250 range, it is a great deal.

I have two cons with this TV, and if they were not present this TV would be 5/5...

-At the top and the bottom of the screen the LCD Back light bleeds through the black forming a glowing white area at the edges of the screen
-There is no On/Off timer so you can set it to come on in the morning and then turn off, there is only a sleep timer.Buy Philips 19PFL3403D/F7 19-Inch 1440 x 900p LCD HDTV (Black)!

Vizio 47" 1080p LCD Full 120Hz HDTV - Black (SV470XVT1A)

I bought this TV in January. The picture was good, 120hz refresh rate was awesome. However, the picture would get choppy and lag a little bit. It could never show a perfect black, you could always see the backlight on. About a month into owning it the TV broke. It would not show a picture at all, just a black screen white random white lines everywhere. Anyway, from the beginning I wasnt sure how good these Vizios were, I took a chance but it did not work out. Will not own a Vizio again. Toshiba REGZA 37CV510U 37-Inch LCD HDTV

This is the first HDTV that we have owned. We purchased it to replace a tube tv that bit the dust. The Regza tv looks very stylish and the picture is great. This thing is perfect for watching the latest dvds on.

The picture is sharp and clear. There is a world of difference between this tv and the Magnavox it replaced. The colors are bright and vibrant. If you haven't compared the old type tvs with these newer ones you need to. You will be amazed.

The sound is a little flat, but the salesman told me that this is common w/flat tvs. He said "flat tvs have flat sound." The audio is good for watching, but you need a surround set up to feel really get into those action scenes.

We liked it so much that we purchased a 26" Regza for our bedroom. My wife and I went for one that was refurbished because we could get one with a dvd player built in. This allowed us to get rid of some of the bedroom clutter.

Why did we wait so long?

I bought this TV from Aldi's when it was on sale. I was worried about the quality, but have to say that I am very happy with it. I use it as my second TV in the bedroom. The HD picture is beautiful. However, to be picky, the backlight is not completely even and the blacks are not as black as most more expensive TV's these days. Then again, for the price I paid, I did not expect Sony or Samsung quality. PS3 games also look gorgeous on this via HDMI. The speakers are fairly weak, I had a leftover set of computer speakers which I plugged into this TV and it sounds great now. This is a nice, basic television with a decent picture. Its only problem is a remote that must have been designed by someone who's antisocial and hostile to humanity. So many buttons, laid out in a way that seems truly random. There are even separate buttons for play and for pause. It's impossible to use without looking at it. Haier HL19R 19-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV (Black)

The Haier brand, from all I can determine, walks a fine line between budget and high-end electronics. My introduction to it was a 20-inch stereo flatscreen tube television I bought maybe eight years ago, a predecessor to the more current model linked here: Haier HTR20 20" CRT TV. (I saw it in the store and was so impressed with the picture that I almost bought it on the spot; but I decided to research the brand first. I found out that though the Chinese-based firm was just starting to crack the US market, it was the third largest electronics manufacturer in the world -- priding themselves, at the time, in some innovative TV technologies.) It's still a lovely set and still going strong in my living room.

My second Haier product was a countertop dishwasher -- very inexpensive and not made very sturdily, it seems, but great for an apartment, and if maintained well and positioned above the water source, a dandy appliance. Mine's five years old and, as with the tube TV, no problems yet. Haier America HDT18PA Space Saver Compact Dishwasher

So when I finally decided to pull the trigger on my first widescreen LCD HDTV -- a 19-incher for the bedroom -- the first place I started was Haier, because I knew the price would be right (and I found it on sale to boot). Unlike my previous TVs, this one I didn't check out in the store first, but purchased via internet, sight unseen.

It's a pretty unit on a non-adjustable stand, and as with any LCD TV of that size, you can fiorget about speakers of any quality whatsoever: there's simply not the depth and height in the design to produce the desired range of volume or ressonance of bass. So, depending on your taste and resourcefulness, plan on spending anywhere from $40 (eBay used) to $200 on speakers as well. (I bought a used Yamaha combo of computer speakers and sub-woofer; if you want something prettier I recommend the wall-mountable iLive 2.1-Channel Speaker Bar with iPod Dock (Black), which I got for my mom's 22 inch Haier [about which more in a bit]. Among other features, this Speaker Bar contains a sub-woofer, so the bass frequencies are resonant and full.)

I've discovered with most televisions, at least the ones I've owned, that if you like the resolution and clarity of the picture, that's your measuring rod; you shouldn't be disappointed if the color isn't to your liking, right out of the box, because it can always be fine tuned and almost always has to be. And sure enough, out of the box, the Haier 19 inch displays a lot of white where you expect a subtler transition into certain lighter pastels (i.e. flesh tones). And sure enough, the means to adjust the picture are within the menu, but you may have to go deep into a submenu to access the Advanced color controls (not as daunting as it may sound and you can always toggle back to the defaults). (There are also submenus for various other features, alarm, date-time settings, etc.) Once you've got color where you want it, the Haier 19 incher looks as good as any TV of its type and equivalence on the market. Which is the ultimate bottom line.

Flaws? The remote is too small and easy to misplace if you're not assiduous about keeping track of where it "lives" (a weird Haier "trademark"), and this particular remote is stupidly designed, with the "OK" (confirmation/enter) button small and off to the side, rather than centrally positioned in a way that your finger moves to it intuitively. Also -- when you're making adjustments, the menu display disappears way too quickly -- UNLESS you find the setting that adjusts the display duration. Which can be a little tricky (and ironic) because you have to move fast enough to get to it before the menu display disappears. The architecture of the menu tree and its navigation is hardly elegant ... but once you have things set up properly, it needn't be. And as with any other consumer electronic that does the job, once you're over the learning curve, there's no problem.

It's worth noting, however, that although the manual applies to several models (various screen sizes and equivalent combo units that also include an onboard DVD player), the features that should be general to all are not shared equally. While this 19-incher allows you to adjust picture ratio among Widescreen, Fullscreen, Normal, Stretch and Zoom (zoom being particularly useful for those stations that "frame" a widescreen image on four sides), the 22-incher (the one I bought for my Mom) only toggles between Widescreen and Normal. (Normal in this case = whatever image and aspect ratio the station puts out, pure and unaltered, so whether or not the screen is full has nothing to do with you or the TV.) So if you're thinking about a larger screen size than 19", it may be worthwhile to download the manual, inspect it for the features that matter to you, and do a little research.

Overall, I like this TV quite a lot. If you can live with full utility over cosmetic or operational elegance, you will too.Buy Haier HL19R 19-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV (Black)!

Vizio 42" 1080p LCD HD TV - VO42L FHDTV

This is the second Vizio LCD TV that I have purchased. Once I find a product that I like I always look to that manufacturer whenever I have another purchase need.

I recently finished my basement and added a family room to my home. I already had a Vizio 37" LCD TV in my living room for close to a year and absolutely loved the quality, especially for the price. At that time I had read an article that Vizio was going to be the Sony of the future. After watching my two TV's I have no doubt they will someday rise to that level.

I didn't have HD service with my first TV, but added it after I bought my 42" and like it even more. The picture quality seems to be as good as any other I see in the stores. I highly recommend to anyone that they should save their money and buy one from Vizio instead of buying one of the expensive brands.Buy Vizio 42" 1080p LCD HD TV - VO42L FHDTV!

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 52XV545U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

This is simply a superb television. We had looked at others in the 52-inch class that cost less and actually were going to go to Costco and buy a Sharp when we went elsewhere and saw this sset. We also have a Toshiba 42" plasma that has been an excellent unit. The thing we miss from our 42" unit is the built-in TV Guide which this set does not have. That's the only down side. We've had it for just over one month and have watched it quite a bit since my wife had major surgery at the beginning of December and we've had to watch more than our fair share of television and movies.

I'll admit I was a little worried because we had bought the HD-DVD player from Toshiba 18 months ago and it failed prematurely. We did upgrade our warranty on this TV to 4 years because of that experience and had the store include it in the purchase price.Buy Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 52XV545U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV!
