Toshiba 32AV500U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Initially the Toshiba 32AV500U performed well. It has a good, clear picture and a fair quantity of ways to connect it including two HDMI ports. However, about three months after the purchase the picture would suddenly just go black. A call to Toshiba found me connected to a factory authorized service center who took the tv and ordered a circuit panel. The day the tv was brought back it failed the second time I turned it on. The repair shop was informed that Toshiba was going to replace the tv. Upon my phone call to verify this Toshiba Service said that "no, they were not going to replace the tv." So, I was left with a still new but broken tv that had sound but often no picture. The endeavor to repair this has been going on since November of 2008 with no end in sight. Now there is an lcd panel on order but has not yet arrived and after calling Toshiba once again, all they will say is that it is scheduled to be shipped as soon as possible. I asked what that meant and they had no idea! So, we wait and wait and wait some more. Today (February 16, 2009) the service center called and said that Toshiba was going to replace the tv because the lcd panel is on back order. I called Toshiba Customer "Service" to verify this and they said the plan was to replace the tv; possibly with a refurbished one. After another phone call to Toshiba Customer Service and explaining in no uncertain terms that I would not accept a "refurb" tv; two days later I was notified that my 32AV500U would be replaced with a new 32AV502U which was delivered to my house on 02/25/2009. The driver and I made the exchange and so far, the upgraded Toshiba has worked very well. I actually purchased a new mid-line LCD and promptly returned it due to poor picture quality on any source other than HD. To me, LCDs and Plasmas are still many years away from perfection. I don't understand why all of the manufacturers have discontinued their CRT models as this is a proven technology. Sure this is a heavy TV and doesn't have that slick flat panel look, but what this sets lacks in design it quickly makes up in other areas. The picture quality beats plasma and LCD hands down for digital TV channels, standard DVDs, video games, and video cameras. You can find one of these at one of the b-m stores for dirt cheap. Toshiba REGZA 26LV47 26-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-in DVD Player

I purchased this unti from Costco.com. When I first got this unit in February 2008, shortly afterwards the power wouldn't turn on and the DVD players' yellow light kept flashing. The Toshiba warranty service center took it to the repair shop and I had to wait for 1 month to get it back. They had to upgrade the firmware to make it work. The TV broke again the 2nd time in October 2008 with the same problem and the Toshiba warranty repair center took it to the shop on Nov. 6 (they only pick up/deliver the unit once a week on Thursdays) and they told me this time they have to replace a board and the parts won't be in until Nov. 24. They cannot repair it until they receive the parts. So I am still waiting here to get my TV back.

My boyfriend and I called Toshiba customer service to see what options were available to exchange this "defective" unit, since it had broken with the same issue twice, we felt that the unit itself was defective, and therefore should be replaced not just repaired. The Toshiba service center would not do that, nor add an additional 1 year warranty to the unit as requested. The only compromise they would do is to extend the warranty for the duration of the repairs while the set was out of our hands. What if the unit breaks again the 3rd time with the same issue beyond the warranty period? Toshiba customer service told us that they don't even offer extended warranty for purchase. So if the unit broke again beyond the warranty period then I am out of luck. Panasonic TC-26LX70 26-Inch 720p LCD Flat Panel HDTV

Puchased this in December 07 to replace a 20" Panasonic tube TV (which still works great). I also purchased a Panasonic VCR/DVD Recorder. The two work excellent together through something called EZSYNC. It basically combines the two units into one logical unit, with one remote control. The quality is excellent, especially with non HD channels. It appears to "upvert" the standard analog pictures to at least 480P (DVD quality). It's hard at this point comment on one component (the TV), but I will say the tuner is excellent, as well as the picture and sound. I purchashed my Sharp in September - and it died on New Years Day! It only lasted 5 months! (I hadn't even finished paying for it!) This local place has a rating of "F" with the Better Business Bureau!! There are complaints regarding the quality of this local company's service all over the internet! Bought an LC-37D43U from Sears in June of 2007, impressed by competitive price and picture quality in the display room. First purchase of large flat-screen TV.
Brought TV home and set it up, TV worked fine. Used in home environment, not abused or used extensively, half-hour to an hour some evenings, kids cartoons on Saturday morning, also hooked up to DVD player. Not a heavy TV-watching household.
Forward eighteen months to January 2009, TV is playing daughter's DVD and goes black, completely inoperative. Take it to Sharp authorized service center, diagnosis is fried Main Board, [...] parts and labor to fix.
Called Sharp.usa Aquos Advantage service to see if they would comp the new board, cost $280, I felt main component should have been more robust, eighteen months to failure is pretty short in my opinion.

VIZIO 37" 1080p VO37LF HDTV - VO37LFHDTV10A

I purchased this Vizio 37" 1080p HDTV about a week ago... I watch it everyday in my living room and still find myself amazed at the picture quality. I have another 4-yr old HDTV (different brand) that is a little smaller (32") and less resolution (720) and the difference is very significant.
I never thought there would be such a noticeable difference in picture sharpness and response time, but there is. The Vizio can't be beat!
I recommend this Vizio to anyone who wants top quality picture at a decent price. The audio on this TV is also satisfactory. As a matter of fact, I have not had the time to hook up my home theater system yet, but the sound is just fine as is. I may not even bother with the home theater at all...
By the way, I did use the HDMI one-cable hook up between the cable HD/DVR box and the TV -- it was a pleasure to get things up and running in about 30 seconds without miles of tangled connectors.

Other small screen sets seemed to have the tiny, cheap speaker sound. The remote is very user friendly and easy to use.

I am extremely pleased with the overall quality of this television. While it is a bit on the pricey side for a 32", the quality of the picture (in both SD and HD) is amazing. I purchased mine refurbished, saving a few hundred dollars, but it is worth the money.

I wouldn't recommend building your home theater around this unless your needs are basic, but it's a great TV for the money. This set is ideal when your video sources are primarily standard def in 4:3 format, such as from a basic cable or satellite set-top box, but you don't want to buy something that's going to be obsolete right away. If you're thinking about buying this you should understand that this set can handle HD signals (over the air local channels or component input), but the picture isn't full HD quality. Sharp Aquos LC32D43U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Just purchased this unit and have a blown pixel. I don't know if it came out of the box this way or if it just occured after 3 weeks of usage. In anycase, I looked this up on google and it seems to be a not so uncommon problem with some SHARP LCD's. I am a bit frustrated, but atleast the blown pixel is on the bottom right portion of the screen and not dead smack in the middle. I called SHARP customer service and was on hold for about ten minutes. The service rep was pleasant and responsive. She offered me a few options to fix my problem. We documented this problem and will request service if I see more dead pixels appear in the future.

I've owned this 52 inch LCD tv Since May 2008 from an authorized Sony dealer. Its initial quality was nothing less than spectacular. Deep blacks. No bleeding. Exceptional clarity. Breathtaking colors. It was registered for warranty the same day online with Sony's website.

Over the last three weeks, I noticed SEVERE bleeding of the blacks during any tv or movie and when it's a blank screen. I've seen an odd double blur around actors and objects (artifacting?). It does Not leave a trail like ghosting. I've tried switching all of my video/audio equipment without success.

I called Sony to come out to repair. They blew me off for three weeks. After getting tired of my 3 times a day calling, they sent a guy out. He said YES my problems were legitimate... BUT IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY! I am extremely upset at Sony and their business practice. A friend of mine has the 42" version and is beginning to show the same faults. Samsung LNT4061F 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I purchased a Samsung LNT 4061F last March 2008. I loved it at first, but recently noticed faint glimpes of 'burn-in'. I called customer service at Samsung only to find that 'burn-in' is not covered by the warranty. I have had this TV for only 10 months and was surprised to find that Samsung does not stand behind its products. There are two faint purple rectangles on the screen caused by messages that the TV produces. For example, messages (such as 'HDMI 1') rountinely appear on the screen in bright blue for a few seconds in the upper left corner of the TV, but the rectangle stays forever. There is another rectangle in the center of my TV where other messages appear. Customer Service at Samsung basically stated it was my fault for allowing the messages to stay on too long; this is absurd.

Buyer beware -- the one year warranty does not cover burn-in; the Samsung rep stated, "It would cheaper to buy another TV". I paid over $1100 for this thing. Never, no never will I buy another Samsung. Buy Samsung LNT4061F 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV!

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46XF550U 46-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

I purchased the Toshiba 46XF550U from Amazon in late November. The TV arrived in pristine condition in the expected delivery window. For the first week I was waiting for HD to be installed and was forced to watch SD programming. I think that the Toshiba does a very good job handling SD signals and looked great via Direct TV. The picture was very clear and after initial setup looked much, much better than I expected. Even after stretching the screen out using one of the Theater modes.
I had a friend come by with his Xbox360(yeah, I don't have one) and the games were AMAZING! He said numerous times how he was able to see details that he had not seen before. The game intros were incredible as well. Using an Upconverting DVD player I was able to view the TV display in 1080p. Absolutely blows you away! Definitely get the most of standard DVDs.
Once the HD upgrade was complete I realized TV viewing BLISS! The picture is very good right out of the box with very little picture adjustment required. Like most all new TVs there a a few basic tweaks to make, but after that, AHHHHHHHH!!! Watching all of the playoff football this year has been much more enjoyable because of the brilliant picture quality of my new Toshiba LCD HDTV. Samsung LNT1954H 19-Inch LCD HDTV White

Don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews. I bought this refurbished TV from Amazon in May and have it mounted on the bedroom wall. Picture (SD/HD) and SRS sound are good. Start-up is a little slow, around 10 sec. Also manual touch controls are a little sensitive, takes a while to get used to. You can always use the remote, which works fine. Remote must have RF, since I can point it at the opposite wall and it still works. Shop around, go for this 2007 model if you can get it for $300 or less. Otherwise, get the L19A331 model.

Sharp Aquos LC52D43U 52-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

My primary goal was to get a large screen TV that is good with regular Non HD channels because most of the channels that my family watches are Non HD being Indian language channels which may take a few years to convert to HD. So I recently purchased an LCD from a big name TV maker 46 inch 1080P and did not have a very good image when viewing Non HD Indian satellite channels. I am not sure if this is just an issue with that particular set or with the model itself. I returned that TV and got a Sharp LC52D43U and am much satisfied with the image of Non HD channels. The packaging, the stand and overall externals also looked quite good. I cannot rate the reliability of the Sharp TV because I have had it for just a week but the picture quality for Non HD is good. There are two dimensions to enjoying a large screen TV. One is the larger image and the other is the better quality / higher resolution picture. If you watch a lot of Non HD content, it is best to ask the sales person to hook up the TV of interest to an antenna or regular cable and test the set out for the picture quality because there are a lot of large screen 1080P TVs out there that have poor picture quality for Non HD channels.Buy Sharp Aquos LC52D43U 52-Inch 720p LCD HDTV!
