I picked this product because of its good reviews and features. It arrived timely in apparently new condition, although the DVD player did not work properly--after playing any number of new and used DVD brand discs for about 10 minutes it would make a snapping sound and shut the power off. Then if the set was turned back on and disc was restarted it played properly. The amazon vendor Computer Brain promised to mail me a new set as soon as I sent in a tracking number for shipping the item back. 10 days later I had heard and received nothing and when I wrote I was told it was on back order. They estimated a new set would be shipped by 2/18/09 or I could have a refund. I asked for a certain shipping date by 2/20/09 or a refund confirmation. It is now 2/28/09 and again I have gotten no new set shipped and no refund or communication. I cannot recommend purchasing the Haier set or the vendor Computer Brain. If I get a prompt refund or a working set I might say otherwise--I liked the set when it was working. The only problem was the highest volume setting was still quite low to hear. LG 47LG50 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

A friend of mine has been spending hours the past several weeks trying to find that perfect LCD TV. I think he must sank 40+ hours into the project by now. He did eventually settle on a 40-42" (can't remember which) Sony for about $1500.

I walk into a close-out sale and walk out with a LG47LG50 in less than 15 minutes for $899. Now, I'll be the first to admit that not doing proper research into a high dollar purchase is not wise, but this TV is amazing! Lots of connections and a brilliant picture that is easy to customize. I've put my PC, a game console, and my over-the-air antenna up to this LG and all look great! My research-heavy friend came over to see it today and was thoroughly impressed with the set.

Best thing about this TV is how intuitive the menu user interface is. Everything from the physical remote control to the antenna tuning interface just makes sense. I'm not saying my 85 year old grandma can run with it, but I believe most people will have absolutely NO problems navigating the myriad of options on this set.

PROS:
- Great, large picture
- Good price
- Intuitive menus and button layout
- Attractive set (hidden speakers)
- Lots of connectivity

CONS:
- Glossy black finish makes finger prints and dust easily visible
- It's light. It's couple pounds lighter than other TVs this size. This could be a con as it feels "cheap," or it could be a pro in that it's light and easy to move. Not a deal breaker.

BOTTOM LINE:

This is a fantastic TV for the money. Crisp, bright picture. Solid build quality. Clean and attractive design. Good remote control makes it easy to switch between inputs.
HD channels look as good as they do on my high priced plasma. I also have my MacBook hooked up to the TV as a second monitor using the DVI out with a DVI/HDMI converter and it works PERFECTLY. It's been a total of 2 days but I already love this tv. At first I was a bit alarmed with programming the remote (the tv seemed to shut off) but it was me not being familiar with the on/off mechanism.

So far, I've played a few dvd movies and it's performed well with all of them. The picture is clear, audio has a limit but seems louder or softer depending on the individual dvd. Still need to try out PS2 games and cable tv.

Overall, this is a stylish tv that fits perfectly into my small room in the city's interior decor and size parameters. I love it! The quality is comprable if not better than Sonys of it's size and it'll last me a good 2-3 decades of use if properly taken care of. Westinghouse 32" 720p HDTV DVD Combo - SK-32H570D

Like a lot of people I've been reading about, I started having problems with my Westinghouse LCD television only a few months after purchasing it. Unfortunately, my problems are sporadic and, not noticing them when viewing cable television, I assumed that this problem was caused by the other input source I used on it (a video game console). I had that unit serviced twice, and by the time I realized that the problem was with the television and not the input source, the unit was out of warranty by about 3 months. Despite having documentation to show that my problems began only a few months after buying their product, their customer disservice department basically told me I was up poop creek. I guess it was crazy of me to expect a $600 television to work properly for a whole year and a half. Thanks for nothing, Westinghouse! Next time, I'll go with Toshiba or Samsung, and I would encourage anyone else to do the same.

Lots of inputs, is still semi-functional a whole 15 months after purchase.

Cons
Discolored static on areas of uniform color (esp. white and red), framerate drops (bad for gaming), customer service is unresponsive and will allegedly make you pay out of your own pocket for any service they grudgingly provide, other customers have reported sets going dead entirely. Purchased TV from Electronics Expo after researching LCD's for 3 months driving around and looking at the Sony XBR6, Samsung LN52A650 & 750, and Sharp Aquos. After ordering, it was delivered in a week on a Wednesday. That Saturday we unpacked it and installed it on a new TV stand, and within 5 minutes of turning it on, a "Humm" started. I changed outlets, satellite connections, surge strips but the "Humm" would not go away. It is so annoying, I cannot watch the TV. I then contacted Electronics Expo, Richard, and his reply was "Contact the manufacturer. That's why it came with the manufacturers warranty." Then contacting Mitsubishi, I was told to contact the repairman in my area. He came out and agreed the "Humm" was very annoying and he needed to contact Mitsubishi. As he was leaving, his comments were, "Should have bought it locally, you could of had them replaced it. When you buy off the internet, you never get any support from the seller." He called back a couple of days later and said Mitsubishi wanted him to take it back to his shop and diagnose it further. I then called Mitsubishi and talked to Hazel and Chris for over a hour. Basically my TV will become a "Refurbished" unit when this story comes to an end. Oh yeah, Amazon.com told me to call Expo and ask for a discount, like that's gonna happen. I have tried to watch this TV and it has a beautiful picture, but that "Humm" has me at a loss. It has driven me out of my familyroom. This TV was to replace our 1994 50" Mitsubishi big screen and I was in the middle of changing my complete system to HD, including Blu-Ray, game console, and AV receiver. But now, I just don't know if purchasing from an internet company is worth the hassle. In this case, the savings has not been worth the hassle. The TV arrived and was easy to set up with my TIVO. Within two days the on/off switch stoped working. The remote nor the botton on the TV would work. I called the customer service for Haier and was told that it was a holiday (Presidents Day) and they would call me back the next day to let me know when someone would pick the TV up. No one called for 2 days so I called again. They said they were having trouble finding a dealer near me and would call me back. After three more days I plugged the TV back in just to see if I could get it to come on. Sure enough it did. I guess it had to reset itself. I still have not heard a word from Haier. I hope it continues to work as apparently Haier has no customer service.

Sharp Aquos LC52D64U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I was so excited to get my new TV. Had everything setup. Set the TV to scan for all available channels. The process of removing channels was horrible. Unlike Sony where you just click add/delete in this Sharp TV you have to go through the menu and delete each channel. Hate it. Then I get to a few channels where I can see the picture perfectly, but I can't hear anything. That's strange because all the other brand TV at home can get those channels with sound perfectly even Vizio the brand I hate with its poor quality picture and a control that only works if you angle it towards the far right. What gives. Sharp is suppose to be a better brand. They need to work on their digital tuner especially the sound. I contact Sharp but have not heard back from them yet.

Not only does this unit have a great picture, it is the best if you are trying to beat glare. I was in Best Buy looking up at the Samsungs that get the best reviews and was disappointed by the store lights reflecting on the screen, a big deal as my living room gets lots of sun. By accident I see this LG next to the Samsung and it is terriffic - NO GLARE AND A GREAT PICTURE.

Coupled with the LG BlueRay (has NETFLIX), Polk RM 6750 speakers (a great deal if you can still find them) and an HK AVR 354 receiver (IPOD dock included, 1080p upscaling, beautiful GUI, best looking box and HK sound) I have a $2,250 system that provides a wonderful audio/visual experience at a fraction of the price I thought I would have to pay. I am only 1 month in and my appreciation builds as I learn to use the setup.

I purchased the LG 42", 1080p, 120Hz, TV locally in January and hooked it up myself. The setup was easy and the picture quality was average to poor due to my having the standard Direct-TV service. I ordered the Direct TV HD upgrade receiver and their technicion installed it two days after I ordered and was he was very good/knowledgeable. The HD channels on my new LG looked perfect in color and clarity. This is the way TV should be. One problem with Direct TV in Central Virginia is they do not give you the local channels in HD. So after all my efforts, I had to watch this years Superbowl on Fox in standard digital and the picture was poor. I contacted Direct TV and they said the local channels in my area were not available in HD even thought we can see the HD symbol on all of them. I contacted the local channels and they said Direct TV refuses to connect to their HD signal. This must be some kind of finacial decision where Direct TV deems our market not worthy of the investment but they claim that 88% of their customers get local channels in HD. I asked Direct TV why we were being charged the same as their customers getting local HD when we did not. They did not reply. The solution here is to buy an outdoor HDTV antenna. I just installed mine this weekend and I now get all local channels in HD along with 20 other "FREE" channels. The cable and satelite companies are gouging us with high prices and package deals that encourage you to spend more. If our TV stations continue to add HD free service, the cable/satelite companies may find themselve without customers. This was a great experience all around. Not only does the 50" Samsung plasma have a beautiful picture, it also has enough inputs for a number of peripherals, ie, Wii, karaoke, BluRay, DVR, and older DVD/VCR player. I had a hard time locating this particular model but Amazon had one via VANN's. My only complaint is that none of the TVs I looked at mentioned that you need extra cables to connect the various peripherals. LG 52LG50 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I bought online, but only after looking at a LOT of TVs in stores. For me, the major selling point for this LG was that the screen is very bright and still has good contrast, making a very nice picture -- I didn't see anything better for anywhere near this price. The PC and USB inputs are very useful bonuses, which are missing from some of the cheaper 52" sets. I don't have external speakers yet, but the built-in speakers sound pretty decent so I'm not in a hurry to do that now. I'm using it with DirecTV HD, and the picture is beautiful, so I'm very satisfied with this TV.

I had researched for months, I ended up buying a cheap phillips set from Sams Club, had terrible sound, ended up the sound quit working. Took back for a full refund.
After more research I found this TV.
At the time of my purchase amazon was about $100 dollars more then going direct through 6ave.com. I've seen some of the bad reveiws of 6ave but many of them were ridiculous. 6ave.com worked great, scheduled my delivery and they showed up when they said they would, overall very happy. If you are going to buy it through amazon, but the set it actually coming from 6ave, just order it directly through 6ave and most likely save some money, I paid $1288, a couple days later it went up.

If you have been looking at these sets you have mostly likely seen the 660?watts of maximum power, this is very high but the brightness of the TV makes a huge difference. I bought a kil-a-watt for this exact reason. Using the same screen, I tested Cinema, Custom, and Game viewing modes, they used approximately 280, 380, and 480 watts respectively. This is a huge difference and will make a difference in the electric bill. I do use the game setting when I'm playing Xbox, but I use custom for regular TV watching, Cinema is to dark for my liking, would probably be ok in a completely dark room though.

Samsung LN40A530 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Bought it at Sears for $900 in December 2008, which was a very good deal, though I see that now Amazon has the 550 at that price and thhis model at $820. The reason I believe its at such a good price is precisely because it is being phased out in favor of newer Samsung models 550, 650, etc instead of this 530. The only advantage some newer ones have are a) 120Hz vs 60 ; b) Dynamic Contrast Ratio (30000:1 or more vs 20000:1 which I don't think is a significant difference, especially considering the price difference).The unit is very nice/ stylish, looks very nice in our living room. Very light, well packed, extremely easy to install. Nice swivel stand can rotate horizontally easily. The image quality when watching HD channels is outstanding. REALLY nice. Don't ever want to see non-HD channels again. When watching DVDs its very nice too. Now, when watching Blu-ray DVD's, its AMAZING, other-worldly. Has really changed our TV watching experience. Be it sports, movies, Discovery-HD, whatever. Much more enjoyable.Down sides: First unit we brought home we had problems with the sound, sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't. Exchanged it for an equal model at sears without a problem. I guess you can always get a defective one. The new one works perfectly.The sound from the TV speakers is ok, but who listens through those in any case? Always use the Home-theater system for sound. The watching angle is ok but I think there are better ones. Somebody mentioned that didn't quite know why would they connect their laptop to it: Iconnect it via the HDMI cable to watch Netflix movies straight from their site: te quality is pretty good, though not as good as a DVD.
Overalll absolutely love it, image quality amazing, great price-performance, highly recommended.

LG 19LG30 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

This LCD HDTV is a good size and the speakers aren't bad at all. The only issue I have with 19LG30, and it may be on all LG TVs, is that the four tuners do not integrate with eachother.

19LG30 has NTSC, ATSC and QAM (plus an broadcast tuner) but they are all given their own seperate folder that will not allow you to integrate them when scrolling through channels. Put more simply, if you press up (on the remote) and are on channel 5 (5-0, standard def.) with the CATV tuner, you cannot go to the HD channel 5-1 (which LG puts in the CADTV tuner folder) you will go to the next in-line standard definition channel, ie. 6. One needs to press 5 again on the remote to go to 5-1 or 5-2 etc. Once in the HD folder or CADTV, pressing up will only scroll through that folder channels. So if you want to go from channel 7.1 (HD channel) to channel 8 (SD channel) you cannot logically and simply press up on the remote: you must press 8, wait for the delay, and the TV then switches to the CATV folder of channels. Bollocks!

This "set-up" is totally frustrating if you are using this TV without a cable box, which is kind of the idea for a 19" TV, and typically scroll channels using up and down on a remote.

I am not sure if this will be an issue after 17 February however, as there is a seperate folder labeled DTV in the channel menu (which remains empty after auto-tuning). If DTV integrates all the channels (once it is online) than this is a dead isssue and this is a 5 star TV. Otherwise why LG do you have such a poor operating system that can't enable/integrate the different tuners? Samsung and Sony integrate the tuners into one folder/line-up.

This is my first LCD Flat Panel TV. I upgraded from a 24" CRT Flat Screen by Toshiba.

Pros:

1. Great Picture (It's only 720p but the picture comes through great and is a big improvement over a regular TV)
2. Smart Stretch setting: this allows one to watch regular TV in widescreen and nothing looks distorted.
3. Inexpensive: I can't afford an expensive flat panel HDTV so this was a great choice for me

Cons:

1. This set has awful sound. I hooked up a Bose CineMate system to it and that fixed this problem. No matter what you hook up to it, you will need to attach some speakers to make watching this TV bearable.
2. No option to turn off the internal speaker. This was an issue when setting up my external speakers. Turning the volume all the way down was a good workaround, though.

I researched this tv forever and thought I was going to fall in love with the set and pat myself on the back for making such a great choice. Well, I received this set from E.E. through Amazon on the 25th of Feb. It's now the 26th and I am writing this very heartfelt review. Don't get me wrong the set is beautiful and a quality picture to match, that was while it lasted. I was watching Tiger Woods and all of a sudden I hear a loud "pop" noise come from behind the tv, the screen went blank and that was all she wrote. I started looking for smoke but I did not see or smell anything. I was pretty concerned so I unplugged it quickly, but nothing else happened. I called samsung and they are finding a tech. to come to my house to try and fix or replace it. I hope I just got a lemon cause it was great looking while it lasted, better luck to you if you decide to buy this tv. I will give it another chance, I have no choice. Samsung LN55A950 55" 1080p LCD HDTV with 120Hz refresh rate and LED backlighting

This is my second Samsung TV and I am very happy with this purchase. Sure its a pricey TV but its also loaded with great features, tons of settings, and the latest LED backlight technology which provides black level that takes LCDs into Plasma territory without the power demands or heat of plasma. This new 55 inch takes less power than my old 40 inch LCD panel due to the smart backlight which turns down (or off) LEDs in dark areas of the displayed image.

Overall I think its picture quality is up there with the high end Sony (LDC) and Pineer (plasma) displays. Samsung has really made a name for themselves in the last few years with there continually improving line of LCDs. I really like how each input saves its own settings so you don't have to adjust whenever you switch inputs.

For gaming: Like other LCDs, in its default configuration there can be some trouble with some games with latency and image blur. I had one major issue with Rock Band when the animation behind the scrolling notes made the notes blur. You can use "E-Mode Game" to fix this but I found a better solution. Because you can not change the brightness/contrast or backlight with "E-Mode Game", I used HDMI2 input for the Xbox 360 and changed the label on HDMI2 to "PC". This tells the TV that you have a PC hooked up to HDMI2 and skips some of the color and image processing just like the "E-Mode Game" but you can now control brightness/contrast and backlight. This only works on HDMI2 and its briefly mentioned in the manual but it makes a much better low latency game mode than the "E-Mode Game" that Samsung provides.

For Movies: Much better than any other LCD due to the great black levels. Deep blacks and good dark detail can be seen with this TV with the right settings. With LED backlight and a Blu Ray player, blacks are actual black instead of dark gray and the black bars on widescreen movies disappear from view. And because its and LCD, bright seens have much more punch than even the best plasma displays.

For TV: If its standard definition don't expect too be impressed. I think the scaler and standard def TV feed looks good for what it is and you can use the LOW setting of dynamic contrast and auto motion plus to make it palatable. But if you have HD TV it should look great on this TV.

Negatives: There is only one real negative to this TV but for me its a very, very minor one. When viewed from an angle, you will loose the inky blacks even from just 30 degrees off axis. Its not a big deal for me for two reasons. The couch is directly on-axis and it looks great from any seat on the couch. From the side chair (about 40 deg) it still looks great and you would probably not even notice you were losing some black level until you move to the couch. Off axis, this TV still looks as good as any high end LCD I have seen. So if you will often need to watch off axis, you do lose some of the benefits of the LED backlight and maybe you should go for a plasma because all LCDs have this issue and most have it much worse than this TV. I just think its noticed more because the on axis blacks are so good. That is why it is often mentioned in reviews. Then only other minor issue is that the stand does not swivel. That would have been a nice touch but with a TV of this size, I probably would not move it much.

For Geeks: This TV is great. The number of different settings you have to play with are unbelievable. You can even do both color balance and grayscale calibration with this TV without needed to go into the services menu. You are provided with full grayscale setting (RGB Gain and Cut) and Color (RGB and YCM) from the standard settings. I really like this because I can try to calibrate it myself without the worry of messing up the service menu settings.

So, you pay a lot for this TV but I think its worth it for the picture quality and a chance to check out LED backlight technology before all the other LCDs get it, and they will! I think LED backlighting is a breakthrough for flat panels and will continue to improve over the next few years and become standard for LCD. I was so excited to get my new TV. Had everything setup. Set the TV to scan for all available channels. The process of removing channels was horrible. Unlike Sony where you just click add/delete in this Sharp TV you have to go through the menu and delete each channel. Hate it. Then I get to a few channels where I can see the picture perfectly, but I can't hear anything. That's strange because all the other brand TV at home can get those channels with sound perfectly even Vizio the brand I hate with its poor quality picture and a control that only works if you angle it towards the far right. What gives. Sharp is suppose to be a better brand. They need to work on their digital tuner especially the sound. I contact Sharp but have not heard back from them yet.

Assembly was easy but you do need two people.

Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ850U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

I bought this TV at Best Buy and paid quite a bit more for it than what you see here. I am thrilled with this TV and is quite a bargain on Amazon. I have cable and a DVD with HDMI and it was a snap to connect and start watching from the get-go.
It is a beautiful TV, and now I am addicted to the larger size widescreen HDTV's. The 800 series of this TV is excellent, and has the best sound ever. No need for a home theatre, DVD and Blu Ray plays BEAUTIFULLY. I bought the expensive calibration service which I think was a waste of money, as the TV is easy to adjust right out of the box. I have my own perferences, and after it was calibrated, I never even used the Custom setting (that is where they put the "calibrated" settings) and went back to my own "Standard" settings after the calibration. I turned off the NR setting, put the black level to "light" and turned off the C.A.T.S. settings on the "Picture" menu. Keeping the black level to "light" and turning off C.A.T.S setting makes a big difference in the clarity of the picture, and makes the adjustment of brightness and contrast more accurate. It takes a bit of fussing, but you can get a perfect picture, all by yourself. I love this TV, and plan to buy a 800 series in the 50 inch, also. Both these series are pretty future proof, and will probably be the last TV's I buy.
I have read that keeping the Contrast and Brightness down to 50 for about 30 days before revving it up any higher will "prime" the TV and actually make it last longer. The 800 series of the Panasonic Plasma has my highest recommendation.
P.S. Be aware that there is some reflection issues with the larger TV, just because they are able to reflect things like lamps over a broader space. This is the nature of big screen TV's I am afraid. However, I have a Sony LCD (the best) and I still prefer the Plasma..far better picture.

This is an Excellent Monitor! The screen is HUGE compared to what I was used to and the adjustment capability is superb(mine is set at cool). It's an HP product so the design and construction are top rate(my last monitor was also an HP). My only wish would be to add 1 more input with the VGA input but the price cannot be beat as is. It is simple and sweet for the basic computer. I would have rated this product as 5 stars but I have not put it through it's paces yet with DVDs and gaming sessions.
